G&L tech resources: Pickups

Larry DiMarzio was allegedly the first to produce a hotter humbucker as a drop in replacement on the Les Paul: the Super Distortion (DP100). And with that, he started the cottage industry of folks trying to create improved pickups. Incidentally, DiMarzio, Inc. owns the trademark on PAF, believe it or not. Only a single guitar in this collection has a DiMarzio pickup, the Area Hot T™ Bridge (DP421) Tele-pickup on an ASAT Classic Bluesboy Pine prototype nicknamed ‘Port & Chocolate’ from 2011. This is around the same time when G&L started developing their own Tele-style Alnico pickups, introduced with the ASAT Classic Alnico Launch Edition and ASAT Classic ‘S’ Alnico Launch Edition in 2012. Incidentally, when reading up on the referenced guitar, it is clear from its spec sheet the DiMarzio DP421 was not the only pickup being tested.
