G&L tech resources: Pickups

There are many great pickup makers out there. And Jason Lollar is definitely one of them, as I am frequently told by Gabe Dellevigne. Jason lives on nearby Vashon Island in the beautiful Puget Sound, providing a local connection for me. When Eric Martin of Martin Guitars in Memphis decided on creating the ASAT Classics Charlie Christian Ltd, he opted for the Lollar Charlie Christian pickup in the neck. The original first appeared on the Gibson ES-150 introduced in 1935. The pickup got its moniker due to its association with the great Charlie Christian, who had bought an ES-150 in 1936 and became popular by joining the Benny Goodman sextet in 1939. The Charlie Christian pickup was one of the first commercially available pickups and not as unwieldy as the then more common horseshoe designs. And clearly the right note was hit because it is still very popular and often used up to today.
