G&L tech resources: Wiring harnesses

G&L’s 18V Active System developed by then VP of Engineering Paul Gagon uses their proprietary BEQ3 (Rev 1.0) studio quality circuit and control system. In their marketing material they refer to it as M-spec for the M-2000 and MJ-2500 and MJ-spec when talking about the MJ-4 or MJ-5 but there is no reason to assume they differ under the covers. The MFD bass humbuckers used on the M-basses are specially voiced for this system whereas the Bi-coil Alnico pickups on the MJ-series basses are a new design tailored for this purpose. The preamp is built around an LF442 op-amp, powered by two 9V batteries, and uses 100V poly capacitors, ±1% metal film resistors, and a military spec circuit board with thick traces. The 250kΩ volume potentiometer is directly mounted on the circuit board. It further has a pan pot with center detent to indicate the 50-50 mix between the 2 pickups, and a ±14dB 3-band EQ with center detents using 50kΩ potentiometers.
