With dimensions of a 185⁄16” body length, 12¼” body width, 4” body depth, and a total length of 37¼”, the Collings Parlor is one of their smallest offerings. The long and narrow body offers a distinct sonic palette. With a scale length of 247⁄16” and 12 frets to the body, this diminutive guitar is based on on some of the earliest steel string designs harkening back to the late 19th century. The Traditional built Parlor 2H T has a Sitka spruce top with pre-war scalloped X-bracing, a shortened tongue brace, petite pyramid style ebony bridge with bone saddle, Indian rosewood back and sides, and style 2 appointments. The Honduran mahogany neck has an ebony fingerboard with gold Mother-of-Pearl (MOP) short diamond and squares position markers. The slotted square headstock has a stained exotic ebony veneer with gold MOP logo and 16:1 gear ratio Waverly bronze 3-on-a-plate tuning machines for slotted headstocks with ivoroid buttons. The hunt for this model started when a beautiful 2019 Parlor 1 T was listed on Reverb. Any Traditional build between 2016 and (early-)2020 came with a Traditional hardshell case designed by Bill. The aforementioned Parlor 1 T had such a case. Many times, almost as a rule given their intrinsic separate market value, a seller would swap out the Traditional case for a TKL case when given the opportunity. Unfortunately, at the time of the listing I was busy with other stuff. Hence, the timing was off. And the inclusion of a Traditional case had become a requirement for me, thereby limiting the number of candidates. Although a Parlor is not frequently listed in any of the marketplaces, it does show up often enough. Usually it concerns a newer build and does not have a Traditional case. So one has to go through several pages of search results to make sure none are available. Then, on the 5th page or so, there was a listing in Hong Kong: a 2019 Parlor 2H T in beautiful condition and with a Traditional case. I added that one to my wish list and was planning to purchase it for my April birthday (and to celebrate surviving one year with Big C). And what do you know? A couple o days before my birthday, this used 2018 Parlor 2H T with only a few dents was included in a Reverb email, much cheaper than the one in Hong Kong. What? Where? Who? Tone Shop Guitars in Addison, TX, the same shop I got my G&L Doheny Tiki Limited Edition from. Do they have it on their website? Yes! What fees and taxes apply? The bare minimum. Deal made! The Traditional OHSC has serial number P-000100. So you own no Traditional case at all, so you have four, almost half of all available Traditional models! Go figure! The guitar looks great with beautiful woods. And the sound matches it. Not as loud as my Baby 1 Walnut G but very nicely balanced. And I just love the smaller size which suits me to a T. No pun intended.
