This Collings 17” scale tenor ukulele rarity has solid Walnut top, back and sides with ivoroid body binding and upgraded Rope top purfling. With the dark hue under the high-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish, the body with a width of 8⅝”, 11” length, and a depth 2⅞” looks gorgeous. As does the whole instrument. The rosette is made out of grained ivoroid with B/W purfling. It has an an East Indian rosewood bridge and bone saddle with 111⁄16” string spacing. This instrument has an L.R. Baggs FiveO ukulele pickup installed. The Honduran mahogany neck has a C-shaped profile, ivoroid heel cap, 12” radius East Indian rosewood fingerboard with ivoroid dot position markers, and 1⅜” wide bone nut. The “Haircut” headstock has an East Indian rosewood veneer with ivoroid Collings logo and 4:1 gear ratio Pegheds planetary gear tuning machines. It came in a Collings branded Ameritage case. My 8th and likely last ukulele. As the non-koa and non-mahogany ukuleles seemed to come fast and furious in mid-2026, it was hard to keep up acquiring these super rare Collings beauties. And this is the 4th at that, after the UC2 (spalted pecan), UT2 Custom for Sitka spruce/East Indian rosewood, and UT3 Maple SB for Sitka spruce/maple. I purchased this one from John Kresich on Reverb, again for a fair price. Walnut is a stiff hardwood giving this instrument a tonal character with more sparkle compared to mahogany but not as bright as koa which places this ukulele sonically smack dab between the UT1 and UT1K. As expected, one might say. Nice!
