My guitar collection - G&L

Of course the 2nd style SC-2 was also available with a Dual-Fulcrum Vibrato (DFV) mounted on a 2-piece, slab soft maple body, as are more 2nd style SC-2s. The Jumbo Magnetic Field Design (MFD) single-coil pickups are controlled by the default wiring harness of volume, tone, and 3-position pickup selector. Its hard-rock maple neck with 7½” radius maple fingerboard has the smaller position markers. The headstock has Schaller closed, G&L stamped, tuning machines with tab and this model is one of the latest still with that feature. The pre-BBE SC-2 was discontinued in mid-January 1985. A slightly different looking BBE-era SC-2 saw the light of day between 2008 and 2017.

This beautiful bright Red 2nd style SC-2 with DFV took a long time to find. Most of my SC/HG guitars are Black so I wanted something different. After Black, Red seems to be the most common color. Michael Wilson listed this specimen on Facebook, a platform I usually do not buy on. But it looked so pristine it was hard to pass up. On top of that, with a neck date only a month prior to mid-January 1985 and the factory usually being closed over Xmas, it is among the latest produced before production of the pre-BBE SC-2 was halted to make room for the Broadcaster. The only modification is the presence of Gibson like control knobs. Although I do have a spare set of original SC-2 knobs, I will keep these numbered controls on because they look cool. The sound is amazing. I brought it to band practice a couple of days after it came in and was complimented on my sound by my mates. Up to that point, I had mainly been using the Z-2 partscaster in the band. The pups on that one sound great too, providing that high-fidelity single-coil sound associated with them, but there is a creaminess to the Jumbo MFD not present in the Z-coil which made the difference noticeable.
